Money Ritual Killings: The Desperation Of Some Nigerians To Make It By Any Means

The rate of money-related ritual killings in the country is becoming rampant in recent times. Yesterday, reports revealed how a couple and six other people lured a 26-year-old woman to her man friend's house, strangled her to death, and dismembered her body. Her legs were reportedly sold for N30,000, while her heart was sold for N50,000.

Instances such as this have been blamed on the economic downturn ravaging the country. However, Nigeria isn't the only country on the globe struggling to stabilize its economy. But why is this menace prevalent in the country?

It should be noted that society seems to glorify the rich, irrespective of their sources of income. Parents now pressure their unemployed children to do the needful and make that money, forcing them to resort to crime, including money rituals. With the dearth of jobs in the country, intelligent and productive graduates still find it difficult to find well-paying jobs, making them regret the years they spent in school.

In the past, young adults were forced to indulge in internet fraud, popularly called "Yahoo Yahoo" but this crime seems to have saturated the country, making fraudsters indulge in rituals to enable them to hypnotize their clients with ease.

Nobody now wants to work and rise through the ranks because even the so-called celebrities glorify criminals, putting legitimate hustlers under pressure to make it at all costs. Despite the efforts of security operatives to apprehend ritualists, many Nigerians still don't care to indulge in this evil act as long as it can make them rich in a short time.

For this menace to be curbed, the government ought to create well-paying jobs for the populace, while parents must desist from pressuring their children into making money. Also, clerics have a role to play by preaching against such acts.
